What this is

Five Seats simulates Taskmaster UK seasons that never happened. Pick any five contestants from any series, and a statistical model runs the season ten thousand times to see who tends to win, who gets robbed, and who was always going to come last. Under the hood is a Thurstonian latent-strength model, which is a serious phrase that means: everyone gets a skill number, the skill numbers fight, and we take notes.

The model eats the complete scoring record of the show: every point ever awarded, including the bonus rounds, secret tasks and multi-part oddities that other datasets quietly fold away. Every contestant's score in every episode has been reconciled, cell by cell, against the official broadcast totals. All 910 cells match. Three moments in the record needed a documented footnote to get there: twice the show's scoreboard disagreed with what was said on air, and once an aubergine was credited to the wrong person. We kept the footnotes, because of course we did. If any of that did something for you, the Methods page goes much, much deeper.
